As this week comes to a close, so does our unit on the food pyramid, food groups and being healthy. This has been one of my favorite units so far because the kids were so excited about it!
For the second half of this week, we explored the meat food group - talking about different types of meat, doing some coloring pages and tasting some beef jerkey.
Then - my favorite - the "treats" food group. We talked about everything that would be included in this food group, and should only be eaten every once in a while - as a treat. Cake, cookies, pie, ice cream, candy, pop, butter, chips and on and on. We made beautiful, sparkly cupcake art.
Then we made chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies, and had a treat!
Me to B, "Where is your cookie?"
B, "In my belly! See?"
Today we wrapped it up by exploring another thing our bodies need to stay healthy besides good food from the food pyramid - exercise! The kids each colored a different picture of a kid like then doing a type of an exercise - softball, soccer, jump rope, running, basketball and weight lifting!
We did all kinds of exercises together and the kids had a blast!
Stretching...
Jumping Jacks...
Jogging in place...
Pretending to jump rope...
Push Ups!...
Sit-ups...
And now - look at those muscles! Whew!
